Abstract Abstract The translation material is extracted from the fourth chapter of Globalization in World History published in 2010, which deals with the huge implications of the changes in global geography in the 16th century - the inclusion of the Americas. The excerpt focuses on the technological developments, the great geographical discovery and the further globalization of trade, diseases, migrations and foods. Based on the translation of the material, a report is written, which consists of four parts: task description, translation process, case analyses and conclusion. The first part presents the source and contents of the translation material. The second part contains three aspects: preparation work (such as reading and analysis of the material, the choice of approaches to translation, the use of auxiliary tools and the conformity of terminology), the solution of difficulties in the translation process and proofreading, polishing and finalizing the translation. Examples selected from the translation material are analyzed at lexical, syntactical and rhetorical levels in the third part. At the lexical level, cases are analyzed from choosing and extending of the sense of a word and its conversion as well as addition. The syntactic analysis involves various linguistic phenomena such as inanimate-subject sentences, the appositive, the conversion of the voices and the extending of a word into a sentence.
