Copyright?2006RajendraKumar.Thisisanopenaccessarticle distributed underthe Creative Commons Attribution License, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, andreproductioninanymedium,providedtheoriginalworkisproperlycited. 1.Introduction This paper presents an exact analysis for the probability density function (pdf) ofthe noiseattheoutputofafrequencydemodulator.Intheliterature[1,5],theFMdemod- ulatoroutputnoiseisassumedtobeGaussian-distributed athighsignal-to-noise power ratio(SNR).AtlowSNR,itisanalyzed intermsofaGaussian noiseandasequence of impulsefunctions(clicks)basedontheclassicaltheorypropoundedbyRice[4].Insuch ananalysis,assumingrelativelylowbandwidthofthepostdemodulatorlowpass(LPF)?l- ter,thevarianceofthetotalnoisepoweratthe?lteroutputisevaluated.Theprobability distributionofthe?lteroutputnoiseisassumedtobeGaussian.Whilesuchananalysisis adequateforthecaseofanaloginformationsignalssuchasspeech,forthecaseofdigital signals,oneofthemostimportantcharacteristicsofthenoiseisitspdf.
