Objective.Todeterminetheprevalenceandimpactofautoimmunethyroiddisease(AITD)inpatientswithrheumatoidarthritis (RA). Methods. Eight-hundred patients were included. The association between AITD and RA was analyzed was analyzed by bivariateandmultivariateanalysis.Inaddition,aliteraturereviewwasdonefocusingongeographicalvariations.Results.Inour cohorttheprevalenceofAITDwas9.8%whilethepresenceofantibodieswas37.8%forantithyroperoxidaseenzyme(TPOAb) and20.8%forantithyroglobulinprotein(TgAb).Thepresenceoftype2diabetes,thrombosis,abnormalbodymassindex,anda higheducationallevelwaspositivelyassociatedwithAITD.TheliteraturereviewdisclosedageographicalvariationofAITDinRA rangingfrom0.5%to27%.Autoantibodyprevalencerangesfrom6%to31%forTgAb,5%to37%forTPOAb,andfrom11.4%to 32%forthepresenceofeitherofthetwo.Conclusion.AITDisnotuncommoninRAandshouldbesystematicallyassessedsinceitis ariskfactorfordevelopingdiabetesandcardiovasculardisease.Theseresultsmayhelptofurtherstudythecommonmechanismsof autoimmunedise
