Introductionandaims.Balancedpropofolsedation(BPS)administeredbygastroenterologistshasgainedpopularityinendoscopic procedures.Fewstudiesexistaboutthesafetyofthisapproachduringendosonographywith?neneedleaspiration(EUS-FNA). WeassessedthesafetyofBPSinEUS-FNA.Materialsandmethods.112consecutivepatients,referredtoourunittoperformEUS- FNA,fromFebruary2008toDecember2009,weresedatedwithBPS.Asecondgastroenterologistadministeredthedrugsand monitorizedthepatient.Results.Allthe112patients(62males,meanage58.35)completedtheexamination.Themeandoseof midazolamandpropofolwas,respectively,of2.1mg(range1–4mg)and350mg(range180–400).Allpatientsreceivedoxygen withamean?uxof4liter/minute(range2–6liters/minute).Themeanrecoverytimeafterprocedurewas25minutes(range18–45 minutes).Nomajorcomplicationsrelatedtosedationwereregisteredduringallprocedures.Theoxygensaturationofallpatients neverreducedtolessthan85%.Bloodsystolicpressureduringandaftertheprocedureneverreducedtolessthan100mmHg. Conclusions.InourexperienceBPSadministeredbynon-anaesthesiologistsprovidedsafeandsuccessfulsedationinpatients undergoingEUS-FN
