To investigate the e?cacy of phage supplementation in reducing pathogen numbers, mice were treated via oral gavage with a Listeria monocytogenes phage preparation (designated ListShield) before being orally infected with L. monocytogenes . The concentrationsofL.monocytogenesintheliver,spleen,andintestinesweresigni?cantlylower(P .05)inthephage-treated thaninthecontrolmice.Phageandantibiotictreatmentsweresimilarlye?ectiveinreducingthelevelsofL.monocytogenesinthe internalorgansoftheinfectedmice.However,thesigni?cantweightlossdetectedinthecontrolandantibiotic-treatedgroupswas notobservedintheinfected,ListShield-treatedmice.Long-term(90days),biweeklytreatmentofuninfectedmicewithListShield didnotelicitdetectablechangesinthemicrobiotaoftheirlargeintestinesordeleteriouschangesintheirhealth.Ourdatasupport thepotentialfeasibilityofusingbacteriophagestocontrolproliferationofL.monocytogenesinmicewithouta?ectingcommensal microbiotacomposition. 1.Introduction Thehumangastrointestinal(GI)tractiscolonizedbyan
