Traumapatientswiththoracicaorticinjury(TAI)su?erbluntcardiacinjury(BCI)atvariablefrequencies.Thisinvestigationaimed todeterminethefrequencyofBCIintraumapatientswithTAIandcomparewiththosewithoutTAI.AlltraumapatientswithTAI whohadadmissionelectrocardiography(ECG)andserumcreatinekinase-MB(CK-MB)fromJanuary1999toMay2009were includedasastudygroupatalevelItraumacenter.BCIwasdiagnosediftherewasapositiveECGwitheitheranelevatedCK-MB orabnormalechocardiography.Therewere26patients(19men,meanage45.1years,meanISS34.4)inthestudygroup;20had evidenceofBCI.Of52patientsinthecontrolgroup(38men,meanage46.9years,meanISS38.7),eighteenhadevidenceofBCI.
