Softwaredevelopmentteamsthatuseagilemethodologiesareincreasinglyadoptingthetest-drivendevelopmentpractice(TDD). TDDallowstoproducesoftwarebyiterativeandincrementalworkcycle,andwithastrictcontrolovertheprocess,favouringan earlydetectionofbugs.However,whenappliedtolargeandcomplexsystems,TDDbene?tsarenotsoobvious;manuallylocating and?xingbugsintroducedduringtheiterativedevelopmentstepsisanontrivialtask.Insuchsystems,thepropagationchains followingthebugsactivationcanbeunacceptablylongandintricate,andthesizeofthecodetobeanalyzedisoftentoolarge.In thispaper,abuglocalizationtechniquespeci?callytailoredtoTDDispresented.ThetechniqueisembeddedintheTDDcycle,and itaimstoimprovedevelopers’abilitytolocatebugsassoonaspossible.Itisimplementedinatoolandexperimentallyevaluated onnewlydevelopedJavaprograms. 1.Introduction ?xed.Oncethetestsarepassed,thedeveloperperformsthe refactoring of the code to acceptable standards; then s/he proceeds to de?ne a new set of test cases for other func- tionalitiesandimplementsanewpieceofcodetopassthem.
