Itproducesedemaonlocaladministrationduetothereleaseofhistamineandprostaglandinsandisassociatedwithhyperalgesia. Inthepresentstudywehaveevaluatedtheantiedematousandanalgesicactivityofantiin?ammatorydrugsagainstin?ammatory responseinducedbydriedlatex(DL)ofCprocerainratpawedemamodel.AnaqueousextractofDLofCprocerawasinjected intothesubplantarsurfaceoftheratpawandthepawvolumewasmeasuredbyaplethysmometerat0,1,2,6,12,and24hours. Concomitantlythehyperalgesicresponsewasalsoevaluatedbymotilitytest,stairclimbingabilitytest,dorsal?exionpaintest, compressiontest,andobservingthegroomingbehavior.Theinhibitorye?ectofdiclofenacandrofecoxibonedemaformationand hyperalgesicresponsewascomparedwithcyproheptadine(CPH).DL-inducededemaformationwasmaximumat2hoursthatwas associatedwithdecreasedpainthreshold,functionalimpairment,andgrooming.Treatmentwithantiin?ammatorydrugsandCPH signi?cantlyattenuatedtheedematousresponseandgrooming,increasedthepainthreshold,andimprovedfunctionalparameters. Bothantiin?ammatoryandantiserotonergicdrugssigni?cantlyinhibitedthehyperalgesiaassociatedwithDL-inducedpawedema. Rofecoxibwasfoundtobesuperiorthandiclofenacandwasase?ectiveasCPHinamelioratingthehyperalgesia.However,itwas foundtobelesse?ectivethanCPHinattenuatingedemaformation. INTRODUCTION intheareaofinjuryasobservedinvariousin?ammatory conditions[15,16]. Calotropisprocera(Ait)RBr,aplantoffamilyAscle- piadaceae,iswellknownforitsmedicinalaswellastoxic properties [1, 2]. The plant produces milky white latex that exhibits pleiotropic e?ects in vari
