Recently subunit nomenclature was standardizedwithatotalof22subunitvariantsidentified.Howeverthisstandardizationdidnotaccommodatetheexistence ofsplicevariantsandisthereforeincomplete.Thus,weproposehereanextensionofsubunitnomenclaturealongwitha literature and sequence database scan for additional V-ATPase subunits. An additional 17 variants were pulled from a literaturesearchwhile4uncharacterizedpotentialsubunitvariantswerefoundinsequencedatabases.Thesefindingshave beenintegratedwiththecurrentV-ATPaseknowledgebasetocreateanewV-ATPasesubunitcatalogue.Itisenvisioned this catalogue will form anew platform on which future studies into tissue- and organelle-specific V-ATPase expression, localizationandfunctioncanbebased.
