After removalofshortandlowqualityreadsweretainedatotalof110,021sequences.Microbiotacompositiondifferedinthe matched samples collected 1 week but not ,72hours prior to NEC diagnosis. We detected a bloom (34% increase) of Proteobacteriaandadecrease(32%)inFirmicutesinNECcasesbetweenthe1weekand,72hoursamples.Nosignificant changewasidentifiedinthecontrols.Atbothtimepoints,molecularsignatureswereidentifiedthatwereincreasedinNEC cases.OneofthebacterialsignaturesdetectedmorefrequentlyinNECcases(p,0.01)matchedclosesttoc-Proteobacteria.
