Roots of olive plants grown under non-gnotobiotic conditions were collected at different time points after PICF7 inoculation.ASuppressionSubtractiveHybridizationcDNAlibraryenrichedininducedgeneswasgenerated.Quantitative realtimePCR(qRT-PCR)analysisvalidatedtheinductionofselectedolivegenes.Computationalanalysisof445oliveESTs showedthatplantdefenceandresponsetodifferentstressesrepresentednearly45%ofgenesinducedinPICF7-colonized oliveroots.Moreover,quantitativereal-timePCR(qRT-PCR)analysisconfirmedinductionoflipoxygenase,phenylpropanoid, terpenoidsandplanthormonesbiosynthesistranscripts.Differentclassesoftranscriptionfactors(i.e.,bHLH,WRKYs,GRAS1) werealsoinduced.ThisworkhighlightsforthefirsttimetheabilityofanendophyticPseudomonasspp.straintomount awidearrayofdefenceresponsesinaneconomically-relevantwoodycropsuchasolive,helpingtoexplainitsbiocontrol activity.
