Methods:Nasopharyngealsamplesfrom371patientswithinfluenza-likeillness(ILI)werecollectedbyGeneralPractitioners (GPs)oftheSentinellesNetworkthrougharandomisedselectionroutine. Results:PhylogeneticanalysisofHArevealedthatA/H3N2strainscirculatingonCorsicawerecloselyrelatedtotheWHO recommended vaccine strains in each analyzed season (2006–2007 to 2008–2009). Seasonal Corsican influenza A/H1N1 isolatedduringthe2007–2008seasonhaddriftedtowardstheA/Brisbane/59/2007lineage,theA/H1N1vaccinestrainfor the2008–2009season.TheA/H1N12009(A/H1N1pdm)strainsisolatedonCorsicaIslandwerecharacterizedbytheS220T mutationspecifictoclade7isolates.ItshouldbenotedthatCorsicanisolatesformedaseparatesub-cladeofclade7asa consequence of the presence of the fixed substitution D222E. The percentages of the perfect match vaccine efficacy, estimatedbyusingthepepitope model,againstinfluenzavirusescirculatingonCorsicaIslandvariedsubstantiallyacrossthe fourseasonsanalyzed
