We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of low-cost, low-power warming methods for maintaining normothermiainabdominalsurgerypatients. Methods:Patients(n=160)scheduledforelectiveabdominalsurgerywereincludedinthisprospectiveclinicalstudy.Five warmingmethodswereapplied:heatedbloodtransfusion/fluidinfusionvs.unheated;wrappingpatientsvs.notwrapping; applyingmoistdressings,heatedornot;surgicalfieldrinseheatedornot;andapplyingheatingblanketsornot.Patients’ nasopharyngealandrectaltemperatureswererecordedtoevaluatewarmingefficacy.Significantdifferenceswerefoundin meantemperaturesofwarmedpatientscomparedtothosenotwarmed. Results:Whenwecomparedtemperaturesofabdominalsurgerypatientgroupsreceivingthreespecificwarmingmethods with temperatures of control groups not receiving these methods, significant differences wererevealed in temperatures maintainedduringthesurgeriesbetweenthewarmedgroupsandcontrols. Discussion:Thevalueofmaintainingnormothermiainpatientsundergoingabdominalsurgeryundergeneralanesthesiais accepted.
