Indeed,subtle eye movementscanbemadetoachieveaneyecontactwiththepersonwithminimalartefactsontheEEG.Thepresentstudy thususedthefaceofarealpersontoexploretheelectrophysiologicalcorrelatesofaffordancesinasituationwheresomeof them(i.e.,eyecontacts)areactuallyperformed.TheERPsthispersonelicitedwerecomparedtothoseevokedbyanother 3Dstimulus:arealdummy,andthusbyastimulusthatshouldalsoautomaticallyactivateeyecontactaffordancesbutwith whichsuchaffordancescouldthenbeinhibitedsincetheycannotbecarriedoutwithanobject.Thephotosoftheperson andofthedummy wereused asmatching stimulithatshould notactivate social affordancesas stronglyasthetwo3D stimuliandforwhichsocialaffordancescannotbecarriedout.Thefronto-centralN300stotherealdummywerefoundof greateramplitudesthanthosetothephotosandtotherealperson.WeproposethatthesegreaterN300sindexthegreater inhibitionneededafterthestrongeractivationsofaffordancesinducedbythis3Dstimulusthanbythephotos.Suchan inhibitionwouldnothaveoccurredinthecaseoftherealpersonbecauseeyecontactswerecarriedout.
