Methods: Secretions were collected from 48 women (24 with bacterial vaginosis [BV]) using vaginal and endocervical Dacronandflockedswabs.Cervicovaginallavage(CVL)wascollectedwith10mLofNormosol-R(n=20),saline(n=14),or water(n=14).TheconcentrationofgluconateinNormosol-RCVLwasdeterminedtoestimatethedilutionfactor.Cytokine andantimicrobialmediatorsweremeasuredbyLuminexorELISAandcorrectedforproteincontent.Endogenousanti-HIV-1 andanti-E.coliactivityweremeasuredbyTZM-blassayorE.coligrowth. Results:HigherconcentrationsofproteinwererecoveredbyCVL,despitea10-folddilutionofsecretions,ascomparedto swabeluents.Afterproteincorrection,endocervicalswabsrecovere
