Results:TheRNASeq-Atlaspresentedhereprovidesarecordofhigh-resolutiongeneexpressioninasetof fourteendiversetissues.Hierarchicalclusteringoftranscriptionalprofilesforthesetissuessuggeststhreecladeswith similarprofiles:aerial,undergroundandseedtissues.Wealsoinvestigatetherelationshipbetweengenestructure andgeneexpressionandfindacorrelationbetweengenelengthandexpression.Additionally,wefinddramatic tissue-specificgeneexpressionofboththemosthighly-expressedgenesandthegenesspecifictolegumesin seeddevelopmentandnoduletissues.Analysisofthegeneexpressionprofilesofover2,000geneswith preferentialgeneexpressioninseedsuggeststherearemorethan177geneswithfunctionalrolesthatare involvedintheeconomicallyimportantseedfillingprocess.Finally,theSeq-atlasalsoprovidesameansof evaluatingexistinggenemodelannotationsfortheGlycinemaxgenome. Conclusions:ThisRNA-Seqatlasextendstheanalysesofpreviousgeneexpressionatlasesperformedusing AffymetrixGeneChiptechnologyandprovidesanexampleofnewmethodstoaccommodatetheincreasein transcriptomedataobtainedfromnextgenerationsequencing.DatacontainedwithinthisRNA-SeqatlasofGlycine maxcanbeexploredat/soyseq.
