By te sting the relative po sition between the driver ’s back head and the head of chair under conven tional sitting po sture, the detector au tom atically judged whether the driver was in the state of fatigue drive. If it wa s, the driver ’s back head shou ld dep art from the norm al po sition and the tim e exceed a set value, then the system ou tp utted alarm signal and b rake contro l signal. Its hard ware circu it and software de sign were m ain ly described. The features of the detector are simp le structu re, short p rogram and relia b le p erform ance. The exp erim ental resu lts demon strate the validity of all the m ethod s p ropo sed in the dissertation, and the test show th is detector ha s h igh accuracy. Key words: infrared
