Methodology/PrincipalFindings:AspartofamicrobiologicalsurveillancestudyintheDemocraticRepublicoftheCongo (DRCongo),SalmonellaTyphiisolatesfrombloodstreaminfectionswerecollectedprospectivelybetween2007and2011. The genetic relationship of the Salmonella Typhi isolates was assessed by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). The antimicrobialresistanceprofileoftheisolateswasdeterminedandmutationsassociatedwithDCSwerestudied.Intotal, 201SalmonellaTyphiisolateswerecollected.MorethanhalfoftheSalmonellaTyphiisolatesoriginatedfromchildrenand youngadultsaged5–19.ThirtydifferentPFGEprofileswereidentified,with72%oftheisolatesshowingasingleprofile. Multidrugresistance,DCSandazithromycinresistancewere30.3%,15.4%and1.0%,respectively.DCSwasassociatedwith pointmutationsinthegyrAgeneatcodons83and87.
