Methods:Ourmethodfirstextractsthevascularboundaryvoxelsfromthe segmentationresult,andutilizesthesevoxelstobuildathree-dimensional(3D)point cloudwhosenormalvectorsareestimatedviacovarianceanalysis.Thena3Dimplicit indicatorfunctioniscomputedfromtheoriented3Dpointcloudbysolvinga Poissonequation.Finallythevesselsurfaceisgeneratedbyaproposedadaptive polygonizationalgorithmforexplicit3Dvisualization. Results:Experimentscarriedoutonseveraltypicalvascularstructuresdemonstrate thatthepresentedmethodyieldsbothasmoothmorphologicallycorrectanda topologicallypreservedtwo-manifoldsurface,whichisscale-adaptivetothelocal curvatureofthesurface.Furthermore,thepresentedmethodproducesfewerand better-shapedtriangleswithsatisfactorysurfacequalityandaccuracy. Conclusions:Comparedtootherstate-of-the-artapproaches,ourmethodreaches goodbalanceintermsofsmoothness,accuracy,trianglequalityandsurfacesize.The vesselsurfacesproducedbyourmethodaresuitableforapplicationssuchas computationalfluiddynamicssimulationsandreal-timevirtualinterventionalsurgery.
