Abstract Background:Whenachildisdiagnosedwithchildhoodcancerthiscreatesseverestressintheparents.Theaimof thestudywastodescribethesenseofcoherenceanditschangeovertimeinasampleofparentsofchildren diagnosedwithcancer. Methods:TheSwedishversionofSOC(29items)wasusedtomeasuretheparents’(n=29)senseofcoherence. Datawerecollectedatfourtime-points:Time-point1atthetimeofdiagnosis;time-point2duringthetreatment; time-point3afterthechildhadcompletedtheirtreatmentandtime-point4whenthechildhadbeenoff treatmentforsomeyearsorhaddied. Results:TheresultsshowedthatSOCintheinvestigatedpopulationisnotstableovertime.Theparentsdecreased intotalSOCbetweentime-points1,2and3.MothershadsignificantlyweakertotalSOCscoreincludingthe componentsManageabilityandMeaningfulnessattime-points1aswelltime-point2comparedtothefathers. However,forthecomponentComprehensibilitynosignificantdifferenceswereshownbetweenmothersand fathers.Thisstudyindicatesthatmothers’andfathers’SOCscoreschangeovertimeduringthechild’ scancer trajectory.However,thepatterninthesechangesvariesbetweenmothersandfathers.
