Methods:Telomerelengthswerequantifiedincordbloodleukocytes(n=133)fromthreemajorgroups:1)pPROM(n=28), 2)PTB(n=69)and3)uncomplicatedfulltermbirths(controls,n=35),usingreal-timequantitativePCR.Placentalmembrane specimens (n=18) were used to correlate fetal leukocyte and placental telomere lengths. Telomere length differences amongthegroupswereanalyzedbyANOVA.Pearsoncorrelationcoefficientsdeterminedrelationshipsbetweenleukocyte andplacentalmembranetelomerelengths. Results:Inpregnancieswithintactmembranes,fetalleukocytetelomerelengthwasinverselyproportionaltogestational age.Themeantelomerelengthdecreasedasgestationprogressed,withtheshortestatterm.pPROMhadtelomerelengths (996263124bp) that were significantly shorter than gestational age-matched PTB (1154664348bp, p=0.04), but comparabletotermbirths(901162497bp,p=0.31).Secondaryanalysesrevealednoeffectsofrace(AfricanAmericanvs. Caucasian)
