Methods:Thisisasecondaryanalysisofthreenationalsurveysoflow-incomehouseholdsinMexicoindifferent settings:rural,semi-urbanandurbanareas.Weanalyzedriskbehaviorsin15-21-year-oldsandtheirpotential relationtourbanicity.Theriskbehaviorsexploredwere:tobaccoandalcoholconsumption,sexualinitiationand condomuse.Theadolescents’localitiesofresidencewereclassifiedaccordingtothenumberofinhabitantsin eachlocality.Weusedalogisticalmodeltoidentifyanassociationbetweenlocalitysizeandriskbehaviors, includinganinteractiontermwithSES. Results:Thefinalsampleincluded17,974adolescentsfrom704localitiesinMexico.Localitysizewasassociated withtobaccoandalcoholconsumption,showingasimilareffectthroughoutallSESlevels:thelargerthesizeofthe locality,thelowertheriskofconsumingtobaccooralcoholcomparedwithruralsettings.Theeffectoflocalitysize onsexualbehaviorwasmorecomplex.Theoddsofadolescentcondomusewerehigherinlargerlocalitiesonly amongadolescentsinthelowestSESlevels.Wefoundnostaticallysignificantassociationbetweenlocalitysizeand sexualinitiation. Conclusions:Theresultssuggestthatinthissampleofadolescentsfromlow-incomeareasinMexico,risk behaviorsarerelatedtolocalitysize(numberofinhabitants).Furthermore,forcondomuse,thisrelationis moderatedbySES.Suchheterogeneitysuggeststheneedformoredetailedanalysesofboththeeffe
