First,classicalgenerating functionsthatde?neunitaryoperatorsarediscussed. Next, grouptheoreticalapproachto generatingfunctionsthathaveunitarityarediscussed. Problemsofthiskindwere discussed?rstbyBargmann[1]. Heconstructedaunitaryoperatorgivenbyanintegraloperatorwhose kernel is a generating function of the Hermite polynomials. He also gave a similar construction for theLaguerrepolynomialswithoutproof,andnoticedasfollows([1],p.203). “Itisworthnotingthata similarinterpretationmaybegiventootherclassicalgeneratingfunctions.” WeturnedourinteresttotheGegenbauerpolynomialswhichgivethezonalsphericalfunctionsonthe pair(SO(n),SO(n?1)),andin[2]weshowedthatasimilarconstructionispossibleforthem.Following this,in[3]wegaveasimilarconstructionforthezonalsphericalfunctionsonthepair(U(n),U(n?1)). Ontheotherhand,A.EssadiqandA.Intissargaveaq-analogofLaguerre’scase(theresultisintroduced in[4]),andEssadiq[4]gaveaq-analogofGegenbauer’scase. Inthetwocasesthatweconstructed,weshouldremarkthatthereisasimilarityintheformsofthe generatingfunctions. Weshallgiveanexplanationindetail.
