Methods:Acohortofpatientswhoself-poisoned(n=867)overaperiodof1yearreceivedaquestionnaire3 monthsafterdischarge.TheBeckDepressionInventory(BDI),BeckHopelessnessScale(BHS),andGeneralizedSelf- EfficacyScale(GSE)wereused.Theparticipationratewas28%(n=242);meanage,41years;66%females. Results:Althoughonly14%ofpatientswereregisteredwithoutfollow-upreferralsatdischarge,41%reportedno suchmeasures.Overall,satisfactionwithtreatmentwasfairlygood,although29%ofpatientswaitedmorethan3 weeksfortheirfirstappointment.Atotalof22%reportedrepeatedself-poisoningand17%cutting.ThemeanBDI andBHSscoreswere23.3and10.1,respectively(bothmoderatetosevere).TheGSEscorewas25.2.BDIscorewas 25.6amongpatientswithsuicideattempts,24.9forappeals,and20.1forsubstance-use-relatedpoisonings. Conclusions:Despiteplansforfollow-up,manypatientsreportedthattheydidnotreceiveany.Thereported frequencyofpsychiatricsymptomsandself-harmbehaviorindicatethatamoreactivefollow-upisneeded.
