Abstract: Based on the ‘autonomous learning’ principles of English vocabulary teaching a certain significance and feasibility. In this paper, the ‘autonomous learning’ in principle the importance of the teaching of English vocabulary and feasibility. Discusses the teaching of vocabulary knowledge, semantic knowledge and vocabulary knowledge, teaching strategies, introduced the relevant part of the practical teaching methods; teaching and learning, in order to cultivate learners ‘independent learning’ competency-based, to help learners construct new knowledge already knowledge; aim is to foster language learning learners thinking, to develop vocabulary to use vision to improve the practical application of vocabulary ability.

‘Independent learning’ (autonomous learning) concept originated in the 20th century, 60 years on the development of lifelong learning skills and foster independent thinking person debate. It includes the following processes: self-monitoring (self-monitoring), self-directed (self-instruction), self-evaluation (self-evaluation) and self-reinforcing (self-inforcement).
According to ‘self-learning’ concept of foreign language teaching should aim to develop learners towards self-learning ability to improve their learning strategies, so that it will last a lifetime direction. This paper focuses on the teaching of English in order to ‘self-learning’ as the goal of vocabulary teaching.
