Corpus and basic English Education
Abstract: This paper introduces the concept of corpus, emphasizing the annotated corpus in language teaching purposes, and with plenty of evidence from collocation of language, with parts of speech, etc. Note the significance of corpus right to basic education. Meanwhile, the paper proposes to strengthen basic education in the field of corpus studies, so that corpus in the field to play a bigger role in promoting the further development of China’s basic education in English.

First, the concept of corpus
Corpus use as early as a few hundred years ago began (Kennedy 2000: 13-15). However, the past, the “corpus,” a non-computer operations, people need to copy a sentence or a note on the card, then its retrieval. Therefore, this phenomenon is called the corpus we can only approach, rather than the modern sense of the corpus.
Some people defined as a linguistic corpus of materials warehouse, the definition is far not explain the corpus characteristics.
Corpus by means of a computer search. The computer has a powerful search function, which is less than the people. Corpus gathered a lot of text, while the computer for any large corpus for easy retrieval. Therefore argued that the term “corpus linguistics” should be “Computer Corpus Linguistics” (Leech 1997: 1).
Corpus of text collection is carried out in accordance with certain principles. British National Corpus (British National Corpus, hereinafter referred to as BNC) of the written language for 90% of the total library, oral 10%, the entire library of structures such as shown in Table 1.
