1.1Research Motives
At this level of my research, I decide to select the following issues as my research motives and objectives: as we know that cross-cultural communication plays an increasing important role in modern world, the food culture is the essential part of the cross-cultural communication. With the deeper development of cross-cultural communication, the communication of the people who come from different countries or are in different cultural background is increasing all the time. If the foreign language learners are lack of knowledge of the target language culture, it will result in the communication barriers and bring troubles in cross-cultural communication. Food culture is an essential part of the intercultural communication, so learning food culture well can help people learn the target language better. Therefore, in order to help the readers and foreign language learners know the differences between English and Chinese food cultures better and develop their ability to stride across the barriers of international cultural communication or avoid the misunderstanding in communication, I will make a study of differences between English and Chinese food cultures in various aspects.
In order to examine these research questions more effectively, I would like to adopt an explanatory, classificatory, summary comparison way of discussion for this paper.
