Unit 8 learning a foreign language The second period Teaching aims Get the students to learn the usages of useful words and expressions. Get the students to learn the characteristics of the successful students so as to improve the students’ English study. Teaching important points The usages of the useful words and expressions. How to get the students to summarize the general idea. How to get the students to master the way to improve their English, and put what they have learnt into reality. Teaching methods Fast reading, discussion, pair work, group work. Teaching aids A computer, a courseware, a tape recorder etc. Teaching procedures Step Ⅰ Greetings and revision Greet the whole class as usual. Check the students’ homework. Step Ⅱ Pre-reading Since we have already learned English for five years, we must have something to say about “ Learning a foreign language”. Show the following on the screen. Pair work or group work to ask and answer. 1. What are some of the difficulties we must face when we try to learn a foreign language? 2. How do we learn our mother tongue? 3.
