A R A Discussion on Assessment of Humanistic Skills in China s National Medical Licensing Examination H OU J ianlin WA N G We imin H E J ia et al H ealth Sc ience Cente r Pek in Univ e rs it Be i ing China g y j Abstract Phy sicians humanistic skills play a critical role in improving doctor atient relationship and the quality of medical p services A ssessment of phy sicians humanistic skills is one of the core components of medical licensing examinations in the U nited Kingdom and the U nited States It mainly relates to three domains namely communication rof essionalism p and interpersonal relationship w ith patients Evaluation methods used or proposed for this purpose include standardized patient video or w ebbased assessment Eff ective assessment of humanistic skills should be added to China s national medical licensing examination in order to f acilitate selection of qualified phy sician improvement of medical service quality and medical education reform In pushing forw ard this w ork it w as suggested to take the current status of medical education into account make use of international ex periences and give priority to assessment of communication skills Key Words medical licensing examination clinical humanistic skills medical education
