总统放生火鸡仪式 每年一度的总统放生火鸡仪式始于1947年杜鲁门总统当政时期,但实际上这个传统仪式可以追溯到林肯总统当政的时期。1863年的一天,林肯的儿子泰德突然闯入内阁会议请求赦免一只名叫杰克的宠物火鸡,因为这只被送进白宫的火鸡,即将成为人们的感恩节大餐。 黑色星期五的来历 感恩节购物已经成为了美国人的习俗。从感恩节 到圣诞节这一个月,美国零售业总销售额能占到 全年的1/3强,是各个商家传统的打折促销旺季。 疯狂的购物月从感恩节的次日(星期五)开始, 这一天即被称为Black Friday(黑色星期五)。 Thanksgiving Thanksgiving became a holiday almost 400 years ago, in 1621. In order to avoid religious persecution, the legendary English pilgrims crossed the Atlantic in the year 1620 in Mayflower. About 102 people traveled for nearly two months with extreme difficulty. Though the original destination was somewhere in the northern part of Virginia, they could not reach the place owing to winds blowing them off course. Finally they got Plymouth in Massachusetts. Nearly 46 pilgrims died due to extreme cold in winter. However, in the spring of 1621, a native Indian brought them necessities and especially sent someone to teach the pilgrims to survive by growing food and hunting animals. In the autumn of 1621, they held a grand celebration where 90 people were invited including Indians. The grand feast was organized to thank god for his favors. This dinner is popularly known as “the first thanksgiving feast (最早的感恩节大餐)”. A national day George Washington proclaimed a National Day of Thanksgiving in 1789. The idea attracted mixed reaction. After a number of events and changes, President Lincoln proclaimed last Thursday in November of thanksgiving in the year 1863. This was due to the continuous efforts of Sarah Josepha Hale, a magazine editor. She wrote a number of articles for the cause for 17 years. On December 26, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a joint resolution of Congress (国会联合决议), changing the national Thanksgiving Day from the last Thursday in November to the fourth Thursday. Two years earlier, Roosevelt had used a presidential proclamation to try to achieve this change, reasoning that earlier celebration of the holiday would give the country an economic boost.
