Cultural Differences in Animal Idioms Between English and Chinese ABSTRACT Language and culture are inseparable. Differences of animal idioms between English and Chinese also reflect cultural differences between the east and the west. This paper contrasts animal idioms from the following four aspects: cultural customs, orientation of thoughts, associations of animals and historical allusions. Being aware of these differences will help us improve our cross-cultural competence in communication.
