That means the speaker makes it up as he or she goes along rather than reading aloud or reciting from memory 1 Listener expectation and purpose 2 To suppose: I f you ask your boss of your salary, what kind of answers do you want to get? When we listen, we usually have purposes in our minds and expect to hear the relevant information to our purposes. 3 Listening as well as looking Most of listening situations are face to face. When a person is speaking, we always observe his or her facial expression or body language at the same time. Because these visual clues help us understand and predict what they say.
