Background information 1. original sin Original Sin, in Christian theology, the universal sinfulness of the human race, traditionally ascribed to the first sin committed by Adam. Sin, in Christian doctrine, is considered a state of alienation or estrangement from God. The Forbidden Fruit In Christian theology, original sin refers to the consequences of the disobedience of Adam and Eve in eating the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. The most important of these consequences was the loss of immortality for Adam and Eve and their descendants. In Christian belief, the effects of original sin are remedied by the sacrificial death of Christ.
