Objective To observe the morphology and function of chondrocytes seeded into type I col lagen sponge of human placenta and to find the sponge∃ s adsorption to chondrocytes and it∃ s biocompatibility Methods Primary and passage chondrocytes of ne ly born rabbits ere cultured after they ere seeded into type I collagen sponge of human placenta. The morphology and structure of chondrocytes cells, as ell as sponge∃ s adsorption and it∃ s biocompatibility ere observed by using light microscope and scanning electron microscope. The synthesis of collagen of type # as studied by using immunohistochemical method. Results Passage chondrocytes seeded into the sponge maintained the morphology characteristic and cells functions.The sponge had excellent adsorption and biocompatibility. Conclusion T he type I collagen sponge of human pla centa can be used as the scaffolds in the threedimensions culture of chondrocytes. Key Words!
