T he result s indicated that the structure of PA N precurso r f ibers w as inher it ed f rom that of nascent f ibers . P A N precursor f ibers w ere composed of f our part s. T he sheet-like skin w hich had high crystallizat ion and hig hly or iented structure w as compact and hom ogeneous. T he core w hich had low cr yst allizat ion w as loose and disor derly. Meanw hile, t he precursor fiber s had a pillar-like lay- ered structure along the f iber ax is. From the skin t o the endothecium, the average thickness of each layer increased gradually.
