Internet connectivity firewall (ICF) is a software that limits what information can be entered from your home or small office network into the Internet and from Internet into your home or small office network. If the network uses Internet connection sharing (ICS) to provide Internet access capabilities to multiple computers, it is recommended that you enable ICF in a shared Internet connection. ICS and ICF can also be enabled separately, for example, to enable ICF on any computer directly connected to Internet. First, the working principle ICF is considered a status firewall, which can monitor all communications through its path, and check the source and destination addresses of each message being processed. In order to prevent unauthorized communications from the common end of the connection into the private end, ICF retains all communication tables derived from the ICF computer. In a separate computer, ICF will track communications originating from the computer. When used with ICS, ICF tracks all communications originating from the ICF/ICS computer and all communications originating from the dedicated network computer. All Internet incoming communications are compared against the items in that table. Only incoming Internet communications are communicated to computers in the network only if there is a match in the table (which indicates that the communication exchange is initiated from within the computer or private network). Communications originating from an external source ICF computer (such as Internet) will be blocked
