However, curators of ancient temples and palaces often display a lackluster attitude towards lightning protection. Two sources for this attitude have been identified: (1) Lightning protection schemes have been suggested to them which alter or obscure the intrinsic lines and beauty of their buildings. (2) There is a widespread belief in China that lightning protection actually attracts lightning, and that ancient buildings would be safer without it.
