I am very glad to meet with the elite of the French railway industry. Mr. President and I met a friend of mine two years ago. He has been to me recently to talk about inviting me to your big event. As chairman of the railroad engineers association, he didnt drive a car, and, of course also does not have in common and high-speed trains, but wearing helmets, riding a portable motorcycle came to the embassy and leave a deep impression on me. This pragmatic spirit is very important for us to carry out china-france railway cooperation. Before introducing the current policy measures for the development of the railway in China, I think it is necessary to review the history of China railway with you. In 1876, the first railway was built on Chinese soil. Despite the fact that it was soon bought and dismantled by the qing government, the Chinese railway has gone through more than 100 years of development. In the late qing dynasty, in the first railway built by the Chinese, the carriage was not pulled by the locomotive, but by the mule. In the period of the republic of China, China had less than 20,000 km of railways, half of which were not open to traffic, the other half were made up of hundreds of different rails and locomotives, and the railway standards were all over the place. After the founding of new China, China railway construction entered a new historical stage. Especially since the reform and opening up in 1978, Chinas railways have continued to develop rapidly. The length of the railway operation has increased from 52,000 km in 1978 to 80,000 km, including the 66-kilometer qinghai-tibet railway on the roof of the world. The 1,1318-kilometer beijing-shanghai high-speed railway, the longest
