Abstract: Wat er allocat io n is necessary fo r w at er - related decisio n analysis . In t his paper, t he signifi-
cance and f uncit ion of w ater allo cat ion ar e descirbed briefly aim ing at current problems in w at er ex -
pl oitat ion . Int egrat ion w it h new com put at ion and inf ormat ion technolog y is a t rend in developing w at er
allocat io n model . sev eral t ypical w at er allocation models and co rresponding sof tw are ar e int roduced
and rev iew ed. Demand- orient ed simulation and opt im ization ar e t wo m ajo r t echniques t o solve w at er
allocat io n mo del. T heref ore, major advantag es and dif ferences of t he t w o t echniques are compared and
t he pr inciple t o choose w at er allocat ion met hod is discu ssed . Based on t he curr ent sit uat ion of research
