Sandwich panels are often used for the roofing and cladding of such structures, sustained by steel thin-walled cold-formed Z profiles, as a secondary structure. The European Design Code for steel cold formed sections, i.e. EN 1993-1-3, approaches at present the Z purlin as a structural element elastically and continuously coupled to the roof panel, which consistently influences its torsional and distorsional behavior in case of failure. On this line of interest, the author is reporting on the progress of an ongoing research, aiming to improve and simplify the prescribed code procedure.
