WORKSHOP 10 - CONDITIONAL CONSTRUCTS AND LOOPS Problem statement In this workshop you will become familiar with the features of ADAMS/View command language that allow you to execute a group of commands repeatedly, or build a series of similar objects. You will also learn how to construct logic so that a group of commands is executed conditionally, that is only if certain criteria are met. To practice using these features you will use models from previous workshops (parameterized hood mechanism and wing retraction mechanism) and a new model (simple diskette). WORKSHOP 10 - CONDITIONAL CONSTRUCTS AND LOOPS Before you start The from_online_doc subdirectory contains examples of conditional constructs that are in the MSC.ADAMS online help. You may want to review them if you are curious about whats available or want to see a simple example. WORKSHOP 10 - CONDITIONAL CONSTRUCTS AND LOOPS Getting started To import the model: Start ADAMS/View from the mod_10_conditionals_loops directory. Import the hood mechanism model, hood_4_start.cmd. WORKSHOP 10 - CONDITIONAL CONSTRUCTS AND LOOPS About executing commands repeatedly Recall that in Workshop 6 – Performing a Design Study, you swept the values of the design variables using a Sweep Variable customized feature. Behind the scenes, Sweep Variable was executing commands repeatedly; nothing more than just modifying a design variable again and again. It worked by taking the variables lower range value and increasing it repeatedly until it reached the upper limit of the range. To achieve this repetitive task, a FOR loop construct was used. Here you will use a FOR loop to mimic the sweep variable operation. WORKSHOP 10 - CONDITIONAL CONSTRUCTS AND LOOPS The following is a simple example of a FOR/END loop in ADAMS/View language: for var=h start=1 end=5 inc=1 command_to_execute(h) end !for This construct will execute a command five times. When you issue a FOR loop like this, ADAMS/View knows to go ahead and create the h variab
