Therapeutic Observation on the Treatment of Vascular Dementia Majorly with Scalp Acupuncture with Rapid Needling Manipulations DAI Xiao-hong, GUO Yu-hong, ZHANG Hong-wei, ZOU Wei. The First Affiliated Hospital of Heilongjiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine,Harbin 150040,China [Abstract] Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of scalp acupuncture with rapid lifting-thrusting and twisting manipulations in treating vascular dementia (VD), in addition to the conventional Western medication treatment. Method Ninety VD patients were randomized into group A, group B, and group C, 30 each. Group A was intervened by scalp acupuncture with rapid lifting-thrusting and twisting manipulations plus medication, group B was by scalp acupuncture without manipulations but plus medication, and group C was by medication only. The Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Activities of Daily Living (ADL) were adopted for evaluation, and the clinical efficacies were compared. Result The MMSE and ADL scores were markedly changed after treatment in the three groups (P 0.01,P 0.05). After treatment, group A was significantly different from group C in comparing MMSE and ADL scores (P 0.05). The total effective rate was 93.3% in group A, versus 86.7% in group B and 73.3% in group C, and the differences were statistically significant (P 0.01).
