Cont inuous measurement of CO at the meteorological observation tower in IAP-CAS ( 39b 9c N, 116b4cE) from January to December 2004 was carrie out in Beijing, using HP5890II gas chromatography ( GC) w ith flame ionization etector( FID) , at measurement frequency of 10 minutes. The iurnal variations of the atmospheric CO concentration at the urban area in Beijing show a very clear cycle w ith two peaks, one appears about 07:00~ 08: 00 in the morning an the other is at 22:00~ 23:00 in the evening, wit h the maximum of 1318mg#m- 3 , 1711mg#m- 3 , respectively1 However, iurnal variations in four seasons are not very same.
