ABSTRACT Objective: the aim of our study was to investigate protective and therapeutic mechanism of Yuanzhi and Shichangpu composition in experimental AD rats. Methods: Wistar Rat (n=40) were randomly divided into four groups. To induce AD, three groups rats received intraperitoneral injection of D-galactose combined with NaNO2 . And the left served as normal control. The treatment intervened after 21 days. Every index was studied after 60days. Test the experimental rats’ learning memory level through Morris Water Maze; Observe construction of rats’ brain tissue and expression of Tau and Aβ to detect the influence of Yuanzhi and Shichangpu composition. Result: In Morris Water Maze experiment, model group rats’ eclipse period was longest, swimming journey was increased and frequency in platform was decreased. The treatment group rats’ eclipse period was shorter, swimming journey was decreased and frequency in platform was increased. AD rats’ cerebral patho-change can be improved after they were treated by Yuanzhi and Shichangpu composition. The expression of Tau and Aβ in model group obviously mult and degrade though treatment of Yuanzhi and Shichangpu composition. Conclusion: The rat model of AD induced by D-galactose and NaNO2 simulated some characteristics of human AD to some extent, which may be used as a novel model to study AD Phlegm is the basic etiological Factor for AD, and Eliminating phlegm therapy is one of the operative on treating AD. Yuanzhi and Shichangpu composition consequently increased the learning memory level, and could decrease AD rats’ cerebral patho-change which result maybe relate the inhibiting Tau. Key words:
