American AN / WSN-3 electrostatic gyro navigator
(I) development background and plan
AN / WSN-3 electrostatic gyro navigator is an advanced inertial navigation system developed by Rockwell International Co on the basis of the development of ESG technology, especially for attacking nuclear submarines. When choosing the development scheme of the inertial navigation system, the AN / WSN-1 dual small ship inertial navigation system is selected as the basic model and improved on the basis of it. The main improvement is to replace the air floated gyro in AN / WSN-1 with electrostatic gyro, and still adopt dual configuration.
The improved system is a new, small, accurate and reliable ship inertial navigation system, which is called ESG gyro navigator, and its military model is AN / WSN-3.
The development of AN / WSN-3 electrostatic gyro navigator began in 1975 and finished the prototype in 1978. In 1982, the product was produced and delivered.
The navy has used its sturgeon class and Losangeles class assault submarines to replace the MK3 inertial navigation system and the AN / WSN-1 dual inertial navigation system that were used on boats.
At present, the AN / WSN-3 electrostatic gyro navigator is in the production phase, and the United States Navy needs at least 85 sets. The electrostatic gyro navigator was priced at $1 million 700 thousand per set in 1981 and was priced at around $2 million per set in 1986.
The U.S. Navy is determined every year to spend the cost of certain order ESGN to replace the MK3 type inertial navigation system and AN / WSN-1 double miniature inertial navigation system, mainly because its performance is better than that of MK3 type inertial navigation system and AN / WSN-1 double miniature inertial navigation system.
