Step 1 Revision
Check the homework.
Step 2 Function File I
Give students time to read through the Function File and have them predict what the missing words are using the listening strategies. Students then listen to the cassette and complete the Function File, checking if their predictions are correct.
T: In this class we are going to learn to express guesses, assumptions, and beliefs. Please listen to the extracts from the monologues and complete the Function File.
Deal with Ex 7.
Ask students to complete the sentences to express guesses, assumptions and beliefs.
Step 3 Language power
Deal with Ex 1 in Language Power Lesson 2 Name Stories on page 54.
Ask students to do Ex 1 in pairs. They will be given five minutes to finish the exercise. Five minutes later, check the answers with the whole class.
Step 4 Function File II
Go through the linking words in Ex 8 on page 9. Ask students to discuss what information the linking words add to the sentences (i.e. information about the time of events and the sequence of events). Students fill in the blanks with the linking words first, then listen to the cassette to check their work.
