Schedule Control 0 Introduction 1. Activity Definition – identify the specific activities that need to be performed to produce the various deliverables (items of work). 2. Activity Sequencing – identify and documenting dependencies among activities. 3. Activity Resource Estimating – estimate the type and quantities of resources required to perform each activity. 0 Introduction 4. Activity Duration Estimating – estimate the time needed to complete individual activities. 5. Schedule Development – analyze activity sequences, durations, resource requirements, and constraints to create the time programme. 6. Schedule Control – control changes to the time programme. 1 Activity definition This process will identify the deliverables at the lowest level in the work breakdown structure (WBS), items of work. Items are decomposed into smaller components called activities to provide a basis for estimating, scheduling, executing, and monitoring and controlling the items of work so that the project objectives will be met. 2 Activity sequencing Identifying and documenting the logical relationships among activities. Activities can be logically sequenced with proper precedence relationships, as well as leads and lags to support later development of a realistic and achievable programme. Sequencing can be performed by using project management software or by using manual techniques. Precedence Diagramming Method (PDM) A method of schedule network diagramming. Rectangles (nodes) represent activities and arrows show the dependencies. Dependencies or precedence relationships: Finish-to-Start. Finish-to-Finish. Start-to-Start. Start-to-Finish. FS is the most commonly used type of precedence relationship. SF relationships are rarely used. Arrow Diagramming Method (ADM) Arrow represent activities and no
