NASOPHARYNGEAL CARCINOMA(NPC) Chen Hong-yan Department of otolaryngology The First Affiliated Hospital of Chong Qing University of Medical Sciences 2004-2-4 Three kinds of malignant tumors in otolaryngology  Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC) （鼻 咽 癌） 50% Larynx Carcinoma （喉 癌） 10%~20% Nasal and Paranasal Carcinoma （鼻腔鼻窦癌） 25%~40% Conception of NPC 1.Malignant mass originates from nasopharynx （鼻咽部）. 2.Carcinoma be treated effectively in early stage. overall 5-year survival is about 60~80%. 3.Cancer that would easily be misdiagnosed or delay- diagnosed in early stage. Epidemiology (流行病学) Pathology（病理学） *Anatomy（解剖学） *Clinical features（临床特征） *Diagnosis（诊断） Treatment （治疗） [Etiology (病因学)] Epidemiology Area endemically (prevalent )found in southern China. more common in the area such as Guang Dong, Guang Xi, Hu Nan, Si Chuan provinces. Incidence there is a striking high incidence among the southern . account for 13% ~20% of all cancerS、50% of all head and neck cancerS. Epidemiology Sex more common in male. Ratio male/female, 3~5/1. Age distribution peak age 40~50. Pathology The commonest tumor of nasopharynx is low-differentiation squamous cell carcinoma (低分化鳞形细胞癌) . It comprises 98 % in the nasopharynx cancer. Anatomy in a hidden place. a cavity with rigid walls. above the soft palate（软腭) under the skull of the base （颅底）. behind the nasal cavity.(鼻腔) a lot of lymphoid tissue (淋巴组织) Anatomy Anteriorly nasal cavity (鼻腔). Laterally 1. opening of Eustachian tube. （咽鼓管） connect with middle ear（中耳）. 2. fossae of Rosenmüller（咽隐窝） (1) a hollow（凹陷）behind and above the opening of Eustachian tube （咽鼓管） .
