Text B is a short story with an ironic title. It tells the judgment of a person from his or her appearance is not necessarily reliable. Structural Analysis Part I (para.1—5) American friendship 1) Few Americans stay put in their lifetime. They are constantly making friends wherever they go. 2) In America, friend can be applied to a wide range of relationships. There are real differences among these relationsa friendship may be superficial, casual, situational or deep and enduring. Part II (para. 6—12) French friendship 1) French friendships are based on compatibility/congeniality of outlook. 2) French friendships are separated from family life. 3) In France friendship is seen as basically a relationship between men. Different Friendships Part III (para.13) German friendship 1) German friendships are based on mutuality of feelings. 2) In Germany, friendships are made part of family life. Different Friendships Part IV. (para.14)English friendship 1) The basis is shared activity. 2) English friendships are formed outside the family circle. Part V. (para.15) There is the recognition that friendship invokes freedom of choice.
