The results showed that the germination rate, tillering rate, plant height and the millable stalks per hectare of Guitang98-298 were 5.5%, 64.5%, 17.0 cm and 21150 higher or more than that of the check variety ROC22 respectively. The sugarcane yield and sugar yield were 22.5 t/hm2 and 2.0 t/hm2 than that of the CK respectively. The difference reached highly significance level. The stalk diameter was 0.16 cm smaller than that of the CK and the sucrose content was similar to CK. GuiFu 98-296 grows quickly, with average stalk diameter, strong resistance to insects and diseases, and good ratooning performance. Guitang98-296 can be released in the central part of Guangxi, and it has the potential to replace ROC22. Keywords G
